A New Benchmark in Sustainable Wetland Conservation
The Gamuda Wetlands Arboretum, a sprawling 90-acre ecological haven located within Gamuda Cove, has officially become Malaysia’s first EDGE Net Zero Carbon certified development. Adjacent to the iconic 1,111-acre Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands, this project redefines sustainable development by blending wetland conservation, education, and climate-conscious design.
As a living museum and environmental education center, the Gamuda Wetlands Arboretum serves as a catalyst for biodiversity preservation, climate resilience, and community engagement. It’s a core part of Gamuda Land’s long-term vision for green cities and regenerative landscapes.
🌍 EDGE Net Zero: Leading the Way to a Carbon-Free Future
Achieving EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) Net Zero Carbon status is a historic milestone—not just for Gamuda, but for Malaysia as a whole. The arboretum:
- Operates with 100% energy savings from baseline
- Generates zero carbon emissions from energy use
- Is powered entirely by onsite renewable energy (14,075.62 kWh/year)
- Maintains a remarkably low energy intensity of 31.23 kWh/m²/year
This recognition is a cornerstone in Gamuda’s goal to reach Net Zero Carbon by 2050, demonstrating that smart, sustainable infrastructure can coexist with ecological preservation.
🤝 Empowering Communities Through Nature and Innovation
Beyond environmental impact, the Gamuda Wetlands Arboretum fosters social equity through collaborative programs and public participation. By creating a space where nature, science, and community intersect, the initiative promotes awareness, education, and inclusive growth.
From guided tours to wetland restoration activities, the arboretum empowers visitors and local communities to be part of a larger environmental movement—one that’s measurable, scalable, and inspiring.
✅ Why Gamuda Wetlands and EDGE Net Zero Matter
- Gamuda Wetlands is an iconic example of wetlands being used as natural infrastructure to tackle urban issues such as flash floods and climate change.
- The EDGE Net Zero certification is proof that zero-carbon development is achievable now—not just in the future.
- This project supports Malaysia’s commitments under the Paris Agreement and the global push toward climate resilience.
